This time, let’s go over some exciting developments happening with the world’s largest search engine and their latest tool; Google Lens! What is it and why does it matter for your business? Read more below to find out!

What is Google Lens?

Google Lens is a tool available on the Chrome browser and Google app that allows users to “search what they see”. By either clicking the “search with lens” tab on pc or the lens icon in the search bar, you can select a portion of your screen for Google to analyze. Once finished, Google can then give you all sorts of info about what you selected. For example, if you use Google Lens to inspect an image of a flower, Lens can pull up a search for what kind of flower it is, the source of the image, or other images of the same type of flower!

In this screenshot, the Google search bar is prominently displayed at the top of the screen, featuring its familiar clean design and vibrant colors. The Google Lens icon is highlighted, drawing attention to its unique camera symbol, which suggests the power of visual search. Surrounding elements include various search suggestions and the familiar Google logo, reinforcing the platform's brand identity. This visual captures the essence of Google Search as a gateway to information and showcases Google Lens as an innovative tool in digital media marketing, enabling users to explore the world through images and enhance their search experience.

How Will Google Lens Affect Your Business?

It may only be October, but retailers and consumers all around are about to dive headfirst into the holiday shopping season. The way you’ll see Google Lens play into this is that according to Think With Google, 53% of shoppers say they conduct research before making a purchase. This means comparing prices from different stores, looking for similar items, and saving purchases for later for when they go on sale. These types of customers are referred to as Omni-Shoppers, and they’re dominating the market. You’ll find that their activity increases drastically both during and after the Cyber 5, the five-day shopping period between Thanksgiving and Cyber Monday, spreading across multiple different platforms, or channels.

The PowerPoint slide features a clean, professional design with a bold title at the top: "The amount of cyber shoppers significantly increased after the Cyber 5." Below the title, a key statistic reads: "Google reports 61% of shoppers used five or more channels." The background is a subtle gradient, enhancing readability, while relevant graphics, such as icons representing various shopping channels, add visual interest.

This slide effectively communicates the significant rise in online shopping during the Cyber 5 shopping period, emphasizing the role of Google as a trusted source for this data. It highlights the importance of multi-channel strategies in digital media marketing, illustrating how consumers engage across various platforms to enhance their shopping experience. The overall message underscores the evolving landscape of retail and the need for businesses to adapt their marketing strategies accordingly.

For Omni-Shoppers, there’s truly no better tool at their disposal than Google Lens, a built-in method to conduct research on the world’s largest search engine. If they spot a product in a picture but can’t find out what it is, all they need to do is use Lens to find its name, all the stores they can buy it at, reviews, and other similar products! That last bit is especially important, since if you want your products to stand out and be found by your audience, you need to try and get your images to come up in these searches as well.

We’ve spoken on this before on our Youtube channel about how important it is for businesses to SEO tag their images, and now you’re seeing why! All of Google’s features and marketing trends are starting to line up and create avenues for you to get your products onto the screens of your audience! Now, when you use images in any kind of branding, make sure you’re making use of any alt-text feature to title your image with keywords and other SEO to make sure they’re being seen.

We’re challenging you to get your products online, since if they’re not, it’s only leaving a space open for other businesses to take advantage of it! Creating an online shop will be a lot of work, but it’ll also greatly increase the amount of customers you’ll be able to connect with, and give you all sorts of new ways to interact with them. Plus, in the age of Omni-Shoppers, more and more people are wanting to get their shopping done online. Once people know they have the power to save time, they’re going to take advantage of it, so help them out by making your products and services more accessible than ever.
